Without further ado, here is Chapter 3: Welcome to the Yucatan

Jonny rode across the heartland in a state-of-the-art dirigible. The flight felt like a dream, like gliding through the clouds in a private airship. The teardrop-shaped vessel had a shimmering skin made of flexible photovoltaic cells which absorbed the sun in order to continue propelling it forward.

The machine rose silently from a private strip outside Nashville and soon entered the stratosphere with quiet electric turbines. For twelve hours, Jonny was suspended in the air between the deep green of rural farmland and the infinite darkness of space.

Soon enough they descended towards Merida. There was an “aero-space port” where they could land. The term sounded much fancier than the actual location, a small building with a concrete lot and shaded grass in a clearing of deeply green grass.

The air was quiet and humid. Jonny took a deep breath and could smell sweet flowers from somewhere in the surrounding jungle. As he stepped out from underneath the dirigible, he was hit by the heat as if it was a physical force.

Then he saw her, the handler from the party.

“Mr. Harker, welcome to the Yucatan. I will be taking you to Young’s compound.”
