Without further ado, here is Chapter 9: Storming City Hall
The office was wrecked. My heart seemed ready to leap out of my chest, and the whiskey was doing nothing to wash away my memory of that robot Lieutenant coming apart. Lawson and his crew had seen it too, so I know I wasn't going crazy. None of us could ignore it, to pretend this was just a randomly bad day in the city. The Mayor himself was compromised. We were certifiably insane for even considering it, but all we could do now was step straight into the dragon's den. This seemed like it could be a one-way trip.
There were a few of them in that cramped space, holding mugs of cheap whiskey and a memory they couldn't forget. Sergeant Lawson, a younger officer named Davies with a broken visor, and a stocky woman named Chen all stood there with adrenaline flowing through their veins.
"So, that thing was taking orders directly from the Mayor?" Lawson asked, gesturing towards Malone to hand over the bottle. "From Hughes? Or whatever is wearing Hughes’s face?"
"Looks that way," Malone agreed. "Luke Delaney was the old Chief of Staff and has been shouting out warnings. Hughes has been replaced."
