THE GREEN SEAWALL: YOUR NEW COMMUTER GYM
Forget Equinox; we’re all just running the seawall now. The Mamdani Linear Park is the social spine of our district. It does far more than just saving Wall Street’s bacon from getting soggy. On any given Tuesday morning, you’ll have to dodge e-unicycles, robot dogs, and VPs from Goldman jogging in recycled ocean-plastic activewear. It’s a 5K loop from start to finish with zero traffic lights (but 100% humidity).
Warning: Watch out for the tides. The Tidal Amphitheater floods during high tides, so you may want to take the fork through the wetlands. If you do, bring bug spray. Or, as the locals prefer, ‘eau de marsh’.
They took the escalator several stories deep into the caisson. This was a massive interchange under the earth that felt far too extravagant for a simple subway station. They were entering the belly of the beast.
“Do you feel your ears popping?” Kevin asked as they traveled downwards for what seemed like forever. “They had dug a hundred feet below sea level and built a giant seawall to hold back leaks from the Hudson.”
